Bush capital
Canberra, Australia's custom-built National Capital, was home to us for more than 20 years. It is a unique, sprawling city, its suburbs often barely visible in their bush setting, and it took some getting used to.
But we grew to love it and its beauty, and enjoy driving along its familiar streets when we (often) come up from where we now live on the New South Wales coast, to visit our children and grandchildren. The children, like us before them, are well aware how privileged they are to be Canberrans.
We were here today, and, from countless options, decided to blip Parliament House as we drove over man-made Lake Burley Griffin on Commonwealth Bridge.
