Harvest

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
Today was our harvest service at church which I had to miss. This though is my own little harvest table. Sweet peas which are still producing and smelling lovely. These are the ones Katy bought as little plants from Waitrose and are in the bed rather than a pot — lots more on their way still too, gorgeous.
The runner beans are next to the sweet peas and also still producing well. I have only one or two courgettes still on their way, but my two plants have given me several kilos. The third plant was a sacrifice to the slugs and seems to have distracted them from the other two plants, one of which shares a grobag with the sacrificial one!
These are the last of the blueberries and some of the first of the second crop on my raspberry canes, both are going to the girls for their tea tonight. I seem to have, by some fluke, got raspberry canes that fruit in July then again in October. Last year I was still collecting berries into December. They are lovely berries too, big and flavoursome.
It's been a good year for apples too, some of the biggest apples I've ever seen on our little tree, bigger than my fist and so tasty. I've made kilos of stewed apples to freeze and still they come. We're lucky as they are a variety which is suitable both to eat raw and for cooking. There's lots more to come too.

I've had a quiet day today. After not stepping across the threshold yesterday, when I woke to a wet garden I thought that today would be a similar story however the day has improved as it progressed and I'm now sitting in warm (for October) sunshine. I walked down to Craigleith and back picking up a couple of things, so at least my step count is a little more healthy today. Strava for some reason thinks I ran at Olympian pace! I'm going to pop down to Katy's with the berries and various other things shortly. Other than that it's another quiet day for me.

Keep safe everybody. If everybody protects them self then everyone is protected... Straightforward really if you think about it!
