108 miles

On a good week, I might run about 20 miles: a long run on Sunday and a couple of shorter ones during the week. So when my daughter, Milly, suggested that I join her and another of my daughters, Hannah, in doing #milesforrefugees, running 108 miles, the distance from Calais to London, over the course of September, I thought "Well, it's only an extra seven miles a week!"

I had forgotten, of course, that twenty miles is a good week, not an average one! So, I have to say it's been a struggle to stay on top of the miles, getting out most days and topping up with the occasional longer run. I'm also hugely proud of Hannah and Milly, who don't have the luxury of the long distances and who had to run more often.

I've been very grateful for the donations people have made - and you can still donate here - and also for the moral support they've given me.

I just had a few miles left today, which I did at lunchtime, during some intermittent rain, which is pleasant enough once you've warmed up.

As I said at the outset, I don't have time for anyone who doesn't have compassion for refugees and I will take this opportunity to distance myself from Priti Patel and her disgusting attitude towards people who find themselves displaced and looking for a safe haven for themselves and their families. Not in my name, lady.
