Schoolyard birdies
Did just about nothing today. I was nice and sore and chilled to the bone from the weekend's backpack to Mason Bay so I took the opportunity to sit in the lounge of my hostel and watch the rain all day. (Never mind the guy I hiked out with had slogged twice as far for twice as long over trails with knee-deep mud with a 50-pound pack.)
I did get outside for about five minutes, to go pet the collie dogs that are tied up outside the local coffee shop every day, and to get a blip of these bird cut-outs lining the fence of the elementary school. Weka, kaka, and kiwi: three birds I've seen for the first time since coming to Stewart Island.
