I chose this photo as depicts the Yorkshire Dales miles of dry stone walls beautifully and I loved all the shadows of the clouds on the fells.


G and I had a lovely day today.  I needed to get him out of the house and get him to have a short walk.  Hubby wanted us out of the way so he could get on with things anyway!!!

So as the weather was so good I decided to head for Horton-in-Ribblesdale again and hope to be able to stop there this time.  I decided against the Lakes, again, as it would be heaving.


We called into The Goat Gap Cafe and shared a scone.  Then drove the Giggleswick and  headed to Horton-in-Ribblesdale.  We stopped off at various lay-bys to take photos and stretch legs.  We saw a very large goods train going over two bridges, which was brilliant - it was like in an arc, it appeared on  our left, then disappeared and then reappeared on our right (see extras).

It was a nice quiet drive.  We got to Horton and couldn't get into the car park as it was already full eeeek, so moved  on.  However just outside the village, just past The Crown pub, we could park alongside the road, safely and free.  So we thought we would try it.  We went for a nice stroll, going over bridges and taking in to the views, shame about the quarry but then that is life in the area.  We didn't stop anywhere, just had a walk and took photos. 

Then proceeded towards to The Ribblehead Viaduct.  We stopped again for photography, views and small strolls.  Then we got to Ribblehead.  The car parks we busy, and there were a few people  heading towards the viaduct where I had planned to walk, so we decided it best to give it a miss this time.  I have been there several times so no big deal.

We then moved on and couldn't find anywhere to stop and eat that we felt comfortable with, so we got all the way back to Beetham to stopped off The Wheatsheaf and had a light late lunch there (about 2.30). 

Couldn't believe how many people were still around and on holiday but at least it wasn't heaving and social distancing seemed to be very good.

Apparently Cumbria are now being asked to ensure that the rule of a maximum of 6 is made up only of two households because infections have doubled in the last week!!!!!!  On looking at this it's not surprising, the two major places are Barrow and Carlisle, both have universities.  They said the majority (but not  all) of the infections were in young people aged between 17 and 29.  So I have my doubts about these figures really, mainly because with schools and universities now in attendance it was bound to happen (and predicted) and also testing has increased, so it's obvious.

All of that still makes me wary and I will still continue to social distance, wear masks, wash hands, avoid shops and go to quiet places.
