to Remember
On the 1st October 1940 the aircraft Fairey Battle L5671 came down at this spot and as marked by the RAF ensign. Sitting next to the ensign is Johnny and he was present eighty years ago in the lane nearby when the plane came down. For an awful moment Johnny recalled that he feared that the plane was going to hit him. You see him here reading his recollections of that day. Also present is Geoffrey, Tommy and John who were also nearby at the time.
We spent some time remembering the aircrew who were the pilot Sergeant Stanislav Osmala and the drogue operator was Aircraftsmen 2nd class Arthur Sharp.
It was an afternoon filled with mixed emotions and afterwards we all enjoyed a cup of tea and cakes.
