Historic Jack's Hut

The alpine township of Arthur's Pass, on the highway between Christchurch and the West Coast, was a snowy playground after a spring snow fall!

Jack's Hut, near the summit of Arthur's Pass, is a roadman's cottage built in 1879 and restored in 2004. Roadmen and their families lived in these cottages and were responsible for the section of road near where their hut was placed

How cold it must have been for the families in these winter conditions.
