Rosehip Growth

This rough, wiry flower-like growth is on rosehip bush in a field close by. It is very attractive despite its unexpected qualities. I've no idea why this happens, maybe a reaction to a insect laying an egg or a fungus of some sort.

It was almost drizzly at that time of the day so the 'flower' was wet but not actual raining.
