State of emergency
Well. The president of Tuscany called one. Stato Di emergenza. Due to the gales and floods that have torn up parts of the Tuscan coast. And six inches of snow that fell on Mt Amiato in southern Tuscany. Something unheard of in September. In Montieri, in the Metaliferous Hills, three inches of rain fell in 40 minutes and the subsequent flood/land slip engulfed the town in mid. No one was hurt.
Even with the sun briefly out here it struggled to lift the fog but did eventually reach 20c before low mournful cloud and rain returned.
I finally sorted out my onions. As you do. I’d kind of forgotten what a bumper crop we had put up to dry back in July.
Later I spent a few hours dropping walnuts onto a hard concrete surface to weed out the hollow and cracked shells. A most tedious job that needs a certain acuity of hearing and vision to separate the good from the bad. Hopefully the next few days will start the process of fully drying the walnuts before the next deluge. I’ve still got boxes of the drupaceous nuts to do. If anyone fancies popping over for a spot of walnut dropping...
