Bonawe Quarry

Fined up this afternoon and a teasing little light appeared in the sky, but it was short lived. Decided on a fairly local drive over the Connell Bridge, and on the north side of Loch Etive, really beautiful scenery. At the end of the road is Bonawe Quarry, the subject of today's blip and a look at the industrial side of Argyll.

The name Bonawe is from the Gaelic Bun Abha which means the mouth of the river. The quarries have been worked since the mid 19th century. Orignally the stone was made into road setts, but now it seems they concentrate on aggregates, I suppose the modern equivalent for road surfaces.
