Covent Garden

Al had an inset day today (Betsy didn't) and we went into Covent Garden. Our plan was to go to the London Transport Museum (again), which we did, but I think even Al is starting to feel that - much as he loves it - the appeal isn't holding when your visits hit double figures. We were only in there for an hour. I suggested we go into the square to see some street entertainers, and when we did we saw these giant eggs everywhere.

It turned out to be The Big Egg Hunt in aid of Action for Children.

Some of them were really beautiful (all decorated by different artists, except the Metro one which was plain because they had 'forgotten' to get it decorated) and so we bought our map and book (got a free chocolate bunny) and went on the egg hunt. They were massive, but some were hidden inside shops and in shop windows, and there were 101 of them. We had a great time running all around Covent Garden in both brilliant sunshine and pouring rain for about two hours looking for them. We did well - we got 93. We gave up after that, both exhausted and I needed to get home to pick Betsy up at 4.30 anyway.

I don't have photoshop on my laptop at the moment and this pic badly needs cropping, but you can see in the background giant red metal letters spelling out the word 'Love', plus a heart behind it. For a donation (didn't see how much) you could buy a padlock with a silver heart on it and write a message for a loved one on it and padlock it to the letters. I wanted to do it but Al curled his lip at the idea - boys! It was in aid of a heart charity. I meant to go back (it is Valentines Day after all!) but forgot after hours of egg hunting.

Lovely day. It's not often I go out with Al on our own.
