Hillwalker
When we were at Glen Nevis last weekend, CyclopsJnr saw a lot of walkers setting off up Ben Nevis and liked the idea. That seemed a bit ambitious, so this weekend we went up Dumyat near Stirling instead. The peak is at 418m, but the car park is at about 150m so you only need to walk up about 270m and the round trip is about 7.5km. That's not too much bigger than walks we've done before.
As it turned out, it was a beautiful day. Cool enough to walk in comfort, sunny enough to keep us warm and our spirits up. We had a lovely time, and CyclopsJnr did very well indeed.
On the way up we visited the Iron Age fort (just a pile of rocks, but on a prominence with a lovely view) and stopped to crack open the Jelly Babies. We had our picnic on the summit in the sunshine. Cyclops played with radios a bit while CyclopsJnr practiced handstands on a grassy bit and did some exploring.
On the way back we stopped at Logie Kirk at the foot of the hill, where two of his Great Grandparents and four of his Great Great Grandparents are buried. Cyclops was there for the funerals of the more recent generation, both on sunny days at this time of year. Sharing memories with CyclopsJnr was quite emotional, given the similarities in the weather and the fact that CyclopsJnr seems to feel some sense of absence even for these relatives he's never met.
A thoroughly lovely day out, and we finished off the Jelly Babies in the car on the way home.
We were all very tired by the time we got back!
Extra: The three of us at the top.
