Eeeek!!
It’s a potato mouse!! • Let me explain • Today we harvested our Fingerling potatoes that were grown in the ground, protected by 4-walls of bricks stacked 5 high. Hey, we’re creative Farmers! I’m happy to announce the final totals for 2020: Fingerlings came in at 14.2 lbs. The Evas we harvested a couple of weeks ago totaled 27.4, giving us a Grand Total of (can you hear the distant drum roll) 41.6 pounds! We’re quite pleased with the results considering they were both new varieties (our favorite seed potatoes were not available, anywhere) and because of the drought conditions all summer • Unfortunately there is some bad news too... we also had 7.8 lbs. of “bad” fingerlings. Unusable. Why, you’re thinking? How could they be bad? Inedible? • While digging for potatoes yours truly heard a squeak and something small and quick scurried deeper in to the soil. Bravely, with gloved hand, I held my breath and quickly swiped away some soil to reveal the Garden Monster who nibbled so many of our potatoes!! Eeek! I jumped out of the way as he quickly ran past my feet, then past Mrs. P’s, before turning the corner of the raised broccoli bed to hide. Whew, that was close! • Ironically we also dug up this potato mouse that suspiciously looks a lot like our little culprit!!
