Derelict

Our Cyprus bush / Juniper tree (nobody seems to know which) has given us shade for some ten or more of the seventeen years we have been here (it was an eye height bush when we moved in), and home to countless black birds and sparrows (and a couple of pigeons), but lately it has also given shade to some ten meters of the farmers land and, as we realised today, smothered the hedge.  On top of that, giving it a haircut no longer was an option for us to get our morning view back.

So very reluctantly we have had to cut it down, and reduce the hedge substantially while we were at it.

It took three full trailer loads to clear it all away.  You can see in both images how far out the tree came by the lack of grass.

We feel a bit guilty about depriving the sparrows of what has been a roost over the last few weeks.  They will just have to move over to the fir trees in the side lawn.  Let’s hope we get a quick recovery from the hedge.

Now we have to sort out the exposed fencing and the like.  Never a dull day.

Well I think the state of the hedge and fence qualifies for Derelict Sunday. Many thanks to Marlieske for hosting.
