Corrieyairack Traverses (1731)

These zig-zags form part of the military road build under the command of General Wade. This was an attempt to improve communications between Government forts in the Highlands at the time of the Jacobite uprisings. The 760m pass would have linked Ruthven Barracks with Fort Augustus.

The blip was taken from the plateau we crossed between Gairbeinn and Corrieyairack Hill before descending to the military road and heading down the traverses. Except we skipped them all on the left.

A fine day with next to no wind but freezing temperatures, 2C at the car and ice in the bogs up top. The summit views were extensive, Ben Nevis to Knoydart and round to Wyvis. Unfortunately the hundreds of motionless wind turbines to the north and east somewhat spoiled things.
