Inviting Roads

As I cycled through town last night, I bumped into Ruth going for a jog, and was inspired to get out today. Luckily, it's much milder than it has been - a balmy 8 degrees - so I pulled on my lycra and cleets and got on the bike.

I headed up onto Bannerdown, and along the lanes to Castle Combe, crossed the M4, crossed back again, round to Chippenham (by accident) and then back home via Corsham and Kingsdown. 32 miles in all, and as I went into the wind along Kingsdown my blood sugar was so low that I started to feel a bit faint. Such a nice day, and warm, with a bit of exercise. Slightly dampened as some knob shouted something unintelligable while throwing cigarette butt out the window at me, but missed and I was too tired to care.

The route was perfect - wide roads, smooth, and very little traffic, passing dells and secluded thatched cottages and farmsteads that you think of when you imagine rural Somerset. The clouds were puffy and I got a fair amount of sun, though not as much as this - I stole this from a google street view of the route because my camera refused to take a photo.

Back home, and drank a litre of chocolate milk and ate pasta like it was out of a trough.
