FLOOD OR NOT

I have mentioned the Gypsey Race before in passing - a stream that runs through the East Riding of Yorkshire, UK - occasionally.

If truth be told this stream/river has a life of it's own. It only seems to run when it wants to. Throughout the very wet 2012 in the UK the Race was totally dry. Then in late December 2012 the water level rose so quickly that it flooded parts of the village of Burton Fleming. At one time the village was cut off.

Now a sensible stream would say - ha I have had my fun, time to calm down again. Not a bit of it - this image today shows the water about to flood again. The sandbags (useless) have been reinforced and the village waits. Meanwhile the water just flows lazily by - bye bye !
