Diary of an Edinburgher

Plan B

It was a bright autumny day - sunny but bloomin’ cold. JR went off to the nursery to get a couple more plants to finish off the front garden.

Elizabeth came to take Archie out again (lucky boy). But she also came to collect something... but more of that later.

I wanted to test out my legs, so once Archie had gone, we walked over the Meadows, heading for my favourite cafe for a coffee and maybe a half wrap. But it was mobbed! People were queuing along the pavement! I was pleased to see it busy. Mind you, on a sunny Saturday, everywhere was busy.

And so I walked on into town. JR was returning a pair of boots (the ‘which boot’ saga has been going on for quite a while) and I wanted to get my steps in, and get a coffee (and maybe a pastry) at Prêt.

It was most pleasant sitting in East Princes Street Gardens gazing across to the old town higgeldy-piggeldy high rise buildings and be reminded what a lovely city it is. And we had a couple of our favourite pastries (snails pain aux raisins).

I had time to pop in and get a couple of packs of licorice before catching the bus home. There was an article in the paper this week about a man who died after eating two packs of licorice every day for a week. His heart just stopped. But I’m quite restrained compared to him.

When Elizabeth came back with Archie, she collected her new bike. Yes! - she has bought my e-bike (before I do myself irreparable damage). She had a wee go on it yesterday on the Links, and loved it. (Yes, this photo was taken yesterday).

But worry not - I will have new (safer) wheels soon...

Funnily enough, a year ago today, I put in a photo of Archie peering through the gate of a friend’s flat that we’d visited, but they’d gone to Australia. I knew Alice  was coming back in September, and today appeared at the gate, just out of quarantine.
