Valentine's Day

Valentines Day

Today is always a double edged sword.... filled with surprises or disappointment, coloured by expectations.

One of the boys at work today received a delivery of a dozen luxury red velvet and chocolate cupcakes from his partner. Decorated with butter cream and sugared hearts, the box was opened to the tune of coos and ahhs from the girls in the office.
Ah, new love... such blissful innocence, and an overwhelming feeling of intoxicating happiness. I am sure it was a welcome distraction from the ridiculous amount of work we have him doing at the moment.

In contrast, another one of my favourite people of work received flower's from her husband of many years (they have a young daughter together).
It was a posy of white roses encased in wooden box decorated like a treasure chest... yeap like a wooden treasure chest... I caught her in lift on way out and suspiciously eyed the wooden chest
'Oh flowers, how nice, is that a wooden chest?'
She clearly looked in two minds...
'Yeah right, the wooden box - he knows it not really my taste... and you know I like the flowers but I keep thinking of how much they cost and what we could have spent the money on instead... but its nice...'
So hilarious, when you work in our field, we're so used to judging things on their visual and sensual merits alone and that it takes some effort to just appreciate the sentiment without casting some sort of critique.
Her sentiment is also hilariously caught up in the practicalities of life - probably a sign of the maturity of her relationship.

This is photo of a card that I picked up from someone who signs himself Wayne. When I am in bourke street mall, I always have my eye out for Wayne.
He sells these cards out the front of MYER on a cloth like a busker. He looks homeless or maybe has intellectual disabilities. The reproduction cards are generally presented next to his original drawings.
I always buy cards from him in the hope that he uses the money to draw other things to put on more cards. S.
