Green day blackening
Remember how they used to gunge people on Saturday morning kids' tv? Well as #3 son said 'at least he'd learned something from watching all these hours of telly.
The groom asked for a blackening, the traditional NE Scotland pre wedding ritual, and he got it. It took a while to round everyone up and yes, mothers don't normally attend, but there we all were over on the wasteground in Desa Sri Hartamas beside the bus terminal with the bride and groom tied up to a lamppost and all manner of things being thrown at and over them them - squirty cream, eggs, flour, water and green food colouring, baked beans, sardines, rice ('cos we can't through it at the church as it attracts rates), Hershey's chocolate syrup. At least they knew what was coming and were dressed for the occasion and it wasn't minus something - unlike my blackening in Huntly on a very cold Saturday morning. I suffered dreadfully from the cold after that - sniffled on my wedding day.
Then it was back to the car wash to hose down. It was very satisfying. I don't know what the locals thought but the bridesmaids enjoyed it. However, the bride will get her back on Saturday. She's out planning the gatecrashing games now.
And thank you for asking - I got 5 cakes iced. Looking not perfect but not too bad. The Aussie fondant is a different texture and consistency from the UK one but as long as it looks ok. The dowels are in and I actually managed to buy thin cake board (having not realised I needed them) in Village Grocer. Thank goodness for ex-pat supermarkets.
#3 son has taken the gf out for a Valetine's meal, #1 son has gone to bed (he and the best man returned at 6 a.m. this morning after a 'few beers' ), the bride is out with friends and it looks like #2 son and I may be forced to spend the evening together - not romantic, but who's caring?
