Tossed!
Today is Gavin's birthday. He was working from home as he usually does on a Friday and has had a busy day so he only came downstairs at about 11.30am for a coffee and to open his cards and presents. I bought him some new hiking boots amongst other things - his last pair literally fell apart when we were walking in Patagonia, but then they were about 15 years old. An extra of the birthday boy and his boots.
Oh my goodness but it was chilly today. On Monday I was wearing a short sleeved T shirt and it still felt like summer, but today, despite being sunny, there is an icy wind that makes it feel very much like winter. I got a shock when I went out to get groceries, and I can see masks being replaced by scarves covering the lower part of one's face as it gets colder. I also got a message today to say there is so much snow in the village we go to in Switzerland today, and I had a look at the live cams and it looks like a heavy dumping of snow with everything being white already.
We are going out for an early dinner tonight to celebrate Gavin's birthday. Inca joined us yesterday, and she wrote her last university exam today so is feeling very relieved - it has been a burden all summer having two sets of exams but now they are finally over. Adam arrives from Cambridge today for the dinner and sadly Luke and Meriel are away in Sunderland so will not be coming to the dinner - in any case we would have been over the number of six so perhaps it is just as well. Luke drove Meriel back home to Sunderland last week as she gave up her flat as she did not need to be in London anymore now that she is working from home until next year.
My blip today is of Tommy's lunch. He loves cooking Asian meals in a wok, and he bought himself that wok which is a specialist iron wok from a UK foundry which he says makes a difference to a stir fry. He is quite expert now at tossing the meal and getting all the flavours just right.
