A day to remember

Several things happened to make today truly memorable. It started with a trip into Tobermory to have my hair cut for the first time since January. Then it was a quick drive back over the hill and round the hairpins (in the new electric car) to get home in time for the planned boat trip with friends A and P.
After yesterday's wet, windy weather, today dawned sunny and calm, tempting us to go out in the boat, as long as there wasn't too much of a residual swell. We were in luck; the sea wasn't quite as calm as a millpond but had just enough rise and fall to make it interesting. We headed north to the Island of Coll and were well away from land when N yelled to us to stop the boat. He had seen some signs of wildlife. And that wildlife in the form of common dolphins suddenly seemed to multiply in numbers in all directions. It's was an enormous pod of well over 100 creatures, ducking and diving, a few jumping out of the water. We were mesmerised at the spectacle stretching out in all directions. Then a few of them came closer and swam around and under the boat. We were all in awe of this natural wonder!
The main photo is one of the many dolphins we encountered; the first extra shows a shower cloud that we managed to avoid and the second extra is the evening view over our anchorage.
