Diary of an Edinburgher

Maggie!

Woke up at 8.55am, and JR was due at the gym at 9.15!! Boy did she move fast. She was only a wee bit late, after running along the road.

I took Archie out and look who we met - the dear wee Maggie. I called her name from across the road, and she crawled across on her chest, then hugged my leg. Meanwhile, Archie is barking at her, but she ignores him. I can’t believe she’s got a wee temper at times. Look at that wee face.

Robert came to collect Archie, and I told him the terrible news here - someone has put poison laced tennis balls in the Hermitage and a dog has died and another one very sick. What sort of person would do such a thing?? Anyway, he went up the hill, still a walk of about 10,000 steps.

Once they were gone, I set to cutting the grass. It looks so nice when has just been done, especially with its nice tidy edges now too.

Later on, we left Archie at home with a bone and went to lunch in Bruntsfield. Archie could have come, but he told us he’d prefer to stay at home. We were half way round, when - yes - JR realised she’d forgotten her mask!!! Again. Just as well she’s a fast runner.

It’s a marvellous pub, new this year (what a year to start!) and plenty of outdoor seating on a sunny corner. We were inside though, and thorough Covid measures were in place. We were impressed. And we were impressed with our meals - we were meat eaters today - a steak for JR and a steak & ale pie for me. Both splendid.

Back home and Archie was still busy with his bone. But we took a painting down to the gallery to get reframed. The frame has never been quite right, so it’s being changed.

SO... our First Minister has decreed we’re not allowed to visit each other’s houses. Pubs to close at 10pm. Big fines for not wearing masks. Things are escalating, but I think these measures might not be enough.

It’s going to be a long tough winter...
