Market Cross, Swaffham
This morning I was told that one of my colleagues is now off sick for the rest of the week - and they need me to cover his schools. So today I found myself in Swaffham. I decided to grab the chance to blip the Market Cross there - it's constructed of limestone with a lead roof. The neo-classical architecture is topped by a depiction of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility - very appropriate for a market town.
If you look close at the blip pic ENLARGED you can just about make out a seagull perched on her head! lol
Inside the school entrance I spotted another potential blip - a large tree section with this lovely Barn Owl carved on top.
An update on Mr. Ferret from yesterday's blip - this morning as arranged, I left him in the picnic basket in the greenhouse. This afternoon my mobile rang, a lady from the RSPCA. "Oh great" I thought "a call to say he's at their place". Not so - apparently when they arrived they found he'd chewed his way through the wall of the picnic basket and squeezed out through the resulting (pretty small) hole. He'd then obviously legged it out of a gap where one of the base panes had broken away. Apparently they're master escapologists, and can get through very small holes rather in the same way that mice can. The lady said if I managed to catch him again, ring them a.s.a.p.
However, I did some Googling and discovered that there's a ferret rescue in my local town, just 5 miles away. When I fed the little queen cat tonight in the hay store I put down a second small bowl of her meat, really expecting Mr Ferret to be giving my place a wide berth after being stuck in that basket in my bath all night. But he soon reappeared. Satisfied he was sticking around, I rang the rescue place. The chap was at mine about an hour later with a ferret-proof carrier. Sadly Mr Ferret didn't re-appear, despite the offer of more food, but we felt that tomorrow night when he''s hungry again he'll almost certainly show up. So the chap left the carrier with me, and as long as Mr Ferret obliges and goes into it for his nosh, I can shut him in, ring the rescue guy and he'll come back to collect. Watch this space ..... lol
