Rotondohütte

After a good night's sleep at the Rotondohütte, the sun started making an appearance on the Witenwasseren glacier and peak as we were having breakfast. A bit more cloud than yesterday, but very warm for mid Sept at over 2500m above sea level.
We set off at 8.45 am, stayed quite high up and went over the Telligrät via Stelliboden then down to Realp. It was very dry, all the bogs had completely died out. We met some men with pick axes above the track, pulling some plants out and putting them in sacks. The first wouldn’t tell us what they were doing, but eventually we found out they were digging up entian (gentian violet) roots to flavour schnapps with. After a little bit to eat in Realp, we got the train back to the car in Hospental, then had an easy journey back home.
