A-Day

Today was the day my little house went up for auction. I have been counting down the seconds and I can’t remember the last time time went so slowly. It was like being eight and counting down to Christmas.
I’ve spent the last two weeks looking at Rightmove and the auction site and clicking refresh. Why?!!! It’s not going to say sold unless I get an offer and agree to sell is it?!!!
It’s like obsessively looking at eBay. With knobs on! And so pointless!
Anyway today was the day of the auction. At 7pm. I’d been more and more distracted all day. At about 3pm I noticed that a house nearby had sold. They’d obviously had a pre-auction offer. Why couldn’t it have been my house someone wanted?!
At 6pm I suggested to Mr K that we take Archie out. I didn’t know what I was going to do with myself for the hour.
We got back at about 6.50pm and sat refreshing the auction page waiting for the link for the livestream to appear.
It still hadn’t appeared by 7.02pm and I was kicking myself for not calling the agent to double check how I could watch the livestream. Maybe you needed an invitation link.
I deliberately hadn’t called her as I didn’t want to have my hopes raised by hundreds of viewings and no bids, or feel depressed by a complete lack of interest. After all, what difference does it make to an auction - two people could turn up on the day who both want my house more than life itself.
7.05pm and Mr K found a link buried in the auction catalogue. He sent it to me but it was for the auction on October 5th and said the auction hadn’t started yet. Obviously.
But once we were on the live-streaming site Mr K found our auction. They have loads from all over the country.
Which had taken place at 2pm and my house was unsold.
What the actual fuck!!!!!!!
2pm???????
Rightmove said 7pm, the agent’s site said 7pm but it was at 2pm and apparently only ONE out of thirty nine lots was sold. Did anyone even turn up?
I texted the agent to say I confused and got some crappy response about needing to change the auction time due to Covid. Or C19 as she called it! A live-streamed auction needed to rescheduled because of Covid?? What’s Covid got to do with an auctioneer sitting in his house live-streaming? She said they’d let all registered parties know about the change. But not the sellers clearly. And what about people like me who leave everything to the last minute? Mr K watched another auction on the site being live-streamed and they sold almost every lot, often for more than the guide price. Why couldn't my house have been in that auction?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
I had a feeling it wasn’t going to sell but for it not even to have the chance not to sell makes it so much worse.
