Warley Place

Several huge sweet chestnut trees not planted by John Evelyn. Warley Place is like a wood with surprises. In the early 1900s, Miss Ellen Willmott had more than 100,000 different plants and 100 gardeners, but the garden, since her death in 1934, has returned to forest. I always see something new. There is the biggest gingko biloba I have ever seen. There are enormous amounts of daffodils flowering in spring. Remains of subterranean greenhouses and heating system (coal-fired). More details, present and past, in the extra. You can see Canary Wharf in the distance, but it was a bit misty today.
