Autumnal Cricket
On a day that was entirely overtaken by sport, in the flesh down at the cricket club, live football all afternoon on television and then recorded highlights of the tour later.
It was an easy win for Ben Rhydding.
All three of us saw our teams get wins in the Premiership. Another 4-3 scoreline for Leeds, this time going the right way against Fulham. An unexpected 3-1 win for Palace away to Man Utd, and then a routine last gasp win for Arsenal, to keep Forrest happy.
And then to watch the penultimate TT stage of the Tour de France, with no expectation of any great excitement. As a consummate time-trialler, it should have required just a regulation effort from Roglic to secure the Tour, but he had a bad day and the prize was stolen by his fellow Slovenian, Pogacar, still just 21 years old. He blew the rest of the field away by over a minute and took two minutes on the yellow jersey. I have to write about it because it's the most staggering solo ride I think I've ever seen. How is that even possible at such a young age? Without the usual Sky/Ineos domination this tour has been brilliant to watch. We've seen the emergence of so many new young stars of the future and that's been a massive breath of fresh air. There's a lot to look forward to in the years to come.
It was a very chilled but exciting day.
