Inspecting the logs

I've dreamt for a number of years of having a wood-burning stove ... and finally, just before Christmas, my wish was granted. :-) We've had it on recently (partly for comfort as much as warmth), so i've been out to my wood pile a couple of times. How come unsplit logs are far easier to stack than split ones btw?
