The road to Wigan Pier..

A view of Wigan Pier which was immortalised in the 1937 George Orwell classic -The Road to Wigan Pier.
The original wooden pier was demolished in 1929 and this iron replica is all that remains of the original coal loading staithe where wagons from the nearby collieries were unloaded into waiting barges.
