A Fly.
I didn't really intend this to be a blip. It was one of those situations where an opportunity presents itself and you just have to "have a go". While we cruise along I have binoculars, the camera of course and "the charts" (Nicholson's Guide to whichever part of the canal we are on) laid on the cabin roof.
Long ago we discovered a major flaw in this arrangement, rain! OK the camera and binoculars get popped into the cabin. Navigation without the guide can be tricky. I was talking to a boater at one of the locks and he was commenting on the difficulty he had in rain, sharp corners catching him out. Then there are things we might be looking out for e.g. rubbish disposal or water points.
We solved this problem a few years ago with a storage box designed for a ream of A4 paper. While not totally clear you can see enough to check the route. So what has that to do with the blip you ask. Well this fly settled on the "chart box" and was obliging enough to sit there long enough for me to try a few shots. The idea was purely to experiment and practice. However I am satisfied with the result so it has become the blip.
