Quite a few people don't like lilies, I know. They find their fragrance overpowering, their orange pollen annoying and the flowers remind them of death.

I was delighted to be given a big bunch of lilies at the weekend (by someone whose middle name means "lily"). The buds are all opening now and I go to bed happy, inhaling their beautiful perfume. I feel happy again when I wake up and see the huge flowers. I think about death every day anyway.

I do have orange stains all over my top after taking these photos :-)
