A bridge
As we were shopping in Penrith, and it was such a lovely day, we decided to go and see how the bridge at Pooley Bridge was getting on. The temporary footbridge was lifted off and now pedestrians can use the actual bridge, in and amongst all the work still going on.
We soon realised that it is actually only possible to see the bridge properly by going into the garden of Granny Dowbekins Tearooms. There were quite a few people sitting at tables in the sun, so we decided we could have lunch. Great view of the bridge, I took a few photos.
But we did not get lunch. It was soon apparent that table service could not keep up with the number of people and we realised that we were in for a long wait. The idea of sitting for such a long time with the horrendous noise from the work going on, and the thought of leaving all our shopping in the car with the high temperatures for that time also, made us decide we must leave and go home. So we apologised and left.
I think the bridge is looking good, although it is hard to tell at the moment. It is supposed to be completed soon, but it looked to us as if there was still plenty to do. Of course there will be people muttering about the design, there already are, but I don't see the point - it's a bridge and it will work as a bridge, it's there . . . and that's it. There is enough in the world to be negative about, without worrying about a bridge!
