England's Smallest County
A morning off, spent visiting England's smallest county of Rutland.
Oakham, the county town, is small but full of history. Here's the Butter Cross, a market area (still in use) shown on maps from 1611 but thought to be older and complete with an unusual 5-hole stocks for the 'punishment and humiliation' of townsfolk caught breaking the law.
