The Lozarithm Lens

Calne (Monday 14th September 2020)

The theme for this week's Mono Monday is Up And Down and so fits in with this fire escape in Castle Street, behind the solicitor's, that has been in my Blip Bank for awhile but I don't believe I have blipped it before. It needs a little bit of sunlight to bring out the shadows.
I posted up two blips yesterday (a swan and a cat, so no surprises there!) in the hope that this entry would be in time for the challenge, with thanks to SueJay50 for hosting.
A colour version is here.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Gladys Knight & The Pips - Here Are The Pieces Of My Broken Heart (recorded 1966, Los Angeles CA and Detroit MI for Motown)
One of thousands of Motown recordings that didn't see the light of the day at the time, this did become a Northern Soul favourite played from bootleg acetates. Written by the "Singing Schoolteachers", Helen and Kay Lewis, a demo was made by Brenda Holloway accompanied only by piano, and then a backing track was assembled at Motown's West Coast studios in July 1966, intended for Diana Ross, who never recorded it. The tapes made their way to Hitsville in Detroit, backing vocals were added by the Pips on August 2, and finally Gadys Knight sang the lead vocal on August 11th.
The bootlegged mono single reference mix was made but nothing came of it, and it remained unreleased until Richard Searling selected this stereo mix for his excellent compilation of licensed but unreleased Motown stuff Tamla Motown Connoisseurs Vol. 1 in 2001. I bought it at the time and rediscovered it on this day. Far too good to remain unheard.
