A view from Jeanneb

Piel Castle

A glorious day so another day out. We decided last week, having been to the east coast, we should go west today. Wanted to avoid the hot spots so settled on the Cumbria coast.
Quite a few traffic delays getting to the M6 and then we discovered we could only get on going south. We could have gone to the next junction and returned north but decided to skirt Morecambe Bay and South Lakeland instead.

Taking the coastal route to Barrow we came to Roa Island, at the end of the route, where there is Barrow’s lifeboat station and a view across to Piel Castle on Piel Island. You can get a ferry across at certain times but today didn’t seem to be one but there were several micro light aircraft on the beach.

We returned a short way to Rampside where we’d passed a hotel with lots of out door tables serving lunch. Just got in in time to order and sat enjoying the view over the extensive Morecambe Bay.

Went into Barrow for some petrol and took a drive over to Walney Island where there are nature reserves and a view of the castle from the other side.

We skirted the South Lakes fells on our return which were beautiful clear as was Ingleborough when we stopped for coffee in the morning at Country Harvest. A short queue where the lady on the door apologised for the wait especially in such weather and with such views!

We also had our flu jabs this morning before setting off. We went to the village Pharmacy, which we have done for a few years now. Just one person, a lovely elderly village lady was waiting. She was upset as she’d forgotten her mask. They said it didn’t matter but gave her one to make her feel better. As soon as she was done we both went in together. The pharmacist had all our details and it was soon done and he said he would notify the dr’s.  Really good especially as he is one of my former pupils!

Another nice day to come tomorrow!
