Ahhh, De Havilland!
MrsDroog and I travelled down to Shepley to visit the De Havilland Museum.
I have always had great affection for the Mosquito: it is a very beautiful aeroplane and my late father worked on them when he was in the RAF. His Squadron, No 98, was re-equipped with Vampires in 1951, so his connection with De Havilland aircraft continued until the end of his service.
This is the very first Mosquito, W4050: her successors helped significantly in the liberation of the world from the tyranny of the Axis powers. I always wanted to see her up close and today I got to do so.
The museum is rather small, but there is much to see: truly a case of 'multum in parvo'. The aircraft aside, what makes a visit so enjoyable is the staff. They are all volunteers and ready to answer any questions in a pleasant manner.
Combined with a splendid Polish dinner, it has been a rather lovely day.
Goodnight, Blippers.
