The infeasibly large pepper grinder

When we got married, we were unconvinced by the idea of a wedding list. There was simply no way we were going round a department store working out a list of things other people might buy for us (this is almost 19 years ago, so pre-Internet). In fact we felt rather bad about asking for anything. Surely that all belonged to the past? We were both working and already had cheap versions of most kitchen equipment we thought necessary.

However, older heads persuaded us that if we didn't make a list, people would still want to buy us things, but without a steer, our guests might all buy toasters...

We drew up what was almost an anti-wedding list. On it, we suggested that an "infeasibly large pepper grinder" would be gratefully received. And here it is, still doing admirable service.
