Salts Mill

A brighter but breezier day today so I got my washing out and dry nicely.

I often meet my friend on a Friday afternoon but she was otherwise engaged today. Chris goes out on a Friday afternoon too so I offered to drive him on to Shipley and pop in to Saltaire myself.

A friend who I walked with yesterday morning told me how they had organised Salts Mill to meet Covid needs so decided to take a look. Not sure I’ve been at all this year which is sad as it’s a favourite place.

Just took a look around the different floors following the one way system, and lingered, of course, on my favourite floor, the book hall. 

For those who don’t know it it is a restored alpaca cloth manufacturing mill, patronised by David Hockney - that’s his work in the top extra , and it was bought and restored by Hockney’s friend Jonathon Silver who sadly died quite young.
The joy of the place is that many of the features from the mill have been retained. It is central to the UNESCO World Heritage  Site of Saltaire. The mill and the village were both developed by Sir Titus Salt, a Victorian philanthropist. 

Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.
Made a purchase or two but really just enjoyed being here.
