Kitchen Chaos
First supermarket shop for a long, long time as I’ve shifted to getting a Friday delivery from local producers. The amount of amazing local people who make great stuff is staggering. Last week a chap turned up with two freshly roasted bags of coffee beans. I tried a raw milk delivery and it’s been a revelation and I’ll likely add it to my regular order of raw milk kefir from the micro dairy. I used to love raw milk in the 1970s when I was little and then the local milkmen stopped selling it (I think cos of safety concerns). I recall being most upset about not having green foil top bottles anymore and we ended up with silver tops and smaller looking bottles, even the birds didn’t like pecking through the lids as much!
The green and yellow tomatoes in the shot are all home grown. The cava in the shot I bought because I liked the label and it was on offer (weak excuse). It’s got very fine bubbles which is super unusual with my experience of cava, I’m a bit of a strong bubble girl so I don’t think I’ll buy this brand again despite the fact I’m sure it’s probably well respected by cava aficionados all over the place! I can imagine this being passed off as champagne.
I went to the supermarket specifically to buy large cannelloni pasta tubes after setting my heart on recreating a TV recipe. Not only have the supermarket not got any but I think maybe they’ve not had any for yonks. I wonder if after the pasta buying shortage it’s not seen a good use of the shelf space? There’s a lot of air in those packets? I’ve had to buy lasagne sheets! I’m seriously out of my depth. . .
A busy day today to be followed by a day of many phone calls tomorrow I suspect.
