“The Recent Circumstances”
Well, that’s one way of putting it. A sign of the times.
The lack of both paid staff and volunteer activity at Dunham Massey is really showing. The gardens were interesting in a gone to seed, unkempt kind of way. Last year a sign in the rose garden explained that there had been 172 hours of dead heading through the season, that will not have happened this year. You realise how high maintenance places are when all that stops.
This is the year the world lost its moorings, and we seem to be drifting further out at present. Covid infection rates in this part of the world seem to be increasing far too fast for comfort. Too many people have become either complacent since the easing, or fed up and don’t care. Mixed and contradictory messaging from the government hasn’t helped. We risk a combined Covid and Brexit crisis in coming months - I very much hope I am wrong.
