The smell of the sea

The smell of the Tyrrhenian Sea is illusive, smothered in sun and humidity.

At eventide you can just catch it, and that’s more the maquis in the shallow dunes.

There is no iodiney sweep of an intertidal zone, no wrack upon the beach.

Just the trammelled ordered sand, the trampled shallow shelf of delicious water, flickering shadows in turquoise to green blue voided of life during the summer season’s herd of watering humans.

But further out who knows, beyond the littoral zone with its push and pull of plastics and waterlogged wood.

Beyond the beguiling patterned bath, under this pleasant sunlit zone.

Who knows.

Who knows.
