Pensive.

Today was a bit of a sobering one. It was a reminder that we need to remember the travesties man has committed so we don't repeat them.

Robert and I visited Choeung Ek today. It isn't a happy place. It isn't meant to be. It is meant to be a memorial and reminder of the Killing Fields, where the Khmer Rouge regime executed over one million people between 1975 and 1979. Mass graves containing 8,895 bodies were discovered at Choeung Ek after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime.

Cambodia is a country still recovering from the events of the past. It is a poor country, but one filled with culture and a long, rich history. While the past century wasn't the kindest to this country, I have yet to see a face filled with self-pity or people lamenting woe-is-me. They push on, go about their lives and continue the journey that is life.

If you don't know about the genocide that happened in Cambodia in the 1970s, here's one link where you can read about the The Killing Fields.
