Berwick-upon-Tweed

We decided to go to Berwick today as the weather was unexpectedly good; possibly the last day of summer? We parked under a bridge in the shade so that kept the car cool as we explored the town. The part of Berwick north of the Tweed is very attractive and has extensive town walls and defensive embankments as the town changed from Scotland to England 13 times through history. The blip is a view from the old bridge looking north to the old town. On our way home we went to Eyemouth where the extra was taken. It is a memorial to a terrible loss of life of fishermen in a storm on 14 October 1881, of the 189 who died 129 were from Eyemouth; that was 10 percent of the male population of the town. There is a splendid memorial by Jill Watson called Widows and Bairns that was dedicated on 14 October 2016 and is of all the widows and bairns that were left without their main wage earner.

Best on black.
