Iron Age Fort

This is the castle bit of Lamberts Castle or to be correct the Iron Age Fort dating from about 1000BC. I am standing in what was the fort and the banks here are the remains of the ramparts on which would have stood a wooden palisade. On the outside of the banks there is a large ditch. You can still follow the remains of the ditch and bank all around what was the fort. The gap here in the bank, was the location of the gateway.
Through the gateway lies the remaining part of Lamberts Castle Hill and the way back to the carpark. You can see that we still have a few trees left from the pruners and I think these are safe as this area was "pruned" a couple of years ago.

This morning it is cold and dull and I feel the same, Jinxy has his ball so all is well in his world and we are about to make our way back to the car, home and breakfast. I cant seem to get any enthusiasm going this morning, I think I might be going down with something!!!!
