Princes St

Quite a busy day today - rugby for the Bug, a family cycle with BIL's bunch, then a mad dash on to a train to meet an old friend from school that I hadn't seen for 11 years.

Rugby is a new thing for the Bug, and N takes him, but it seems to have a very nice atmosphere and community spirit.

The cycle was at Beecraigs, and we had a picnic at the pond before setting off. The Bug did well on his bike to start with, though his control of the brakes needs some work, and he has trouble setting off uphill. So we put him on the tag along and I gave him a very wobbly lift. The Bear wasn't too fussed about it all.

The dash for the train was very silly, and unexpected. The train was already on the platform when the car pulled in, and I had to grab my jacket out the boot (and didn't close it properly. The disembarking passengers held the gate open for me and I rushed on, then realised I had left my mask in the car, but thankfully had one in my pocket. This was my first time using public transport since March.

It was good to catch up with my friend (who I have such fond memories of) and the conversation flowed freely, though we hadn't had a proper conversation in probably 15 years! We met on Calton Hill and it was a perfect day for it, with fantastic views, but I was too busy chatting to take the photo opportunity.

Coming home, I had a 10 minute wait by the Scott Monument, and was surprised to hear buskers next to the gallery, just finishing up their set. The city was busier than I had expected, given the pandemic, and the bus home was very busy which I felt a bit uncomfortable with, particularly given the upward trajectory we seem to be on again.
