Fighting the wind

Backblip: Today was one of the highlights of my time in Australia so far :) A couple of friends and I had bought vouchers for a trip to Wilson's Promontory (or just the Prom as locals call it) before Christmas and hadn't found a time to actually go on the tour until this weekend.

The Prom is the 3rd oldest national park in the world and the furthest south you can get on mainland Australia, and therefore more geographically similar to Tasmania than anywhere else. It's basically an outdoor paradise, with camping, hiking and fantastic beaches but it was almost deserted because school holidays are over now and everyone is back to work.

We started off in the park with a visit to a spot where the kangaroos and emus like to hang out, but our plans were quickly changes thanks to a Tiger Snake that didn't feel like moving off the path. They're on the list of the top 10 most venomous snakes in the world so we decided to let him have his way and come back later on.

We spent the rest of out afternoon hiking up to the top of Mount Bishop and on the beaches. The beaches alone would be worth a trip to the Prom! The first was Norman Beach, which has the finest, softest sand I've ever felt. It felt like velvet. I could go on and on and on about the sand. But that would be weird... The next beach we went to is called Squeaky Beach because if you dig your feet into it it makes a squeaking sound, like basketball shoes on gym floor, because it's really fine quartz sand. Makes for a very entertaining walk :)

I know that I could have posted ocean vistas and mountains and all sorts of other scenic photos (of which I have hundreds), but I loved this one.
