flying kites
We stopped twice on the way home and I have posted the blips in the order I took them, it's just a cop out because I can't choose a favourite. The first stop was at Laugharne, famous for Dylan Thomas. Its not difficult to see where he got his inspiration to write from. We stood an chatted to a local artist who was just sat on a jetty along the estuary watching the light and colours change, he had put all his material away. Apparently he had been sat there for 3 hours since high tide and was was understandably lost in his scene. The view down the estuary from DT Boathouse produced the first extra. We had to move on because we needed to get to Gigrin Farm in mid Wales, Britains best place to see red kites. Their Red Kite Feeding Station began in 1992 following a request from the RSPB. There were 6 roosting kites at the time on the farm and they had become extinct in many other parts of the country. Now hundreds visit every day for feeding at 3pm, not all eat and the amounts fed are only a supplement, not enough to be dependent on. It is a real spectacle to see so many of these elegant and graceful birds fly around whistling to each other in what is a huge social gathering.
The end of a memorable week, we have walked miles, enjoyed the turquoise sea and spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. We will be back again next year, a little earlier so we can include my annual trip to see the puffins on Skomer Island (hopefully as covid closed it this year}
