Oh! Rowan Tree
Oh! rowan tree, oh! rowan tree,
Thou'lt aye be dear to me,
En twin'd thou art wi' mony ties
O' hame and infancy.
Thy leaves were aye the first o' spring,
Thy flow'rs the simmer's pride;
There was na sic a bonnie tree
In a' the countrie side.
The first verse of the song written by Lady Nairn, and sung more recently by Jean Redpath.
I am more used to seeing The Rowan clinging perilously to coastal cliffs in Kintyre so it was good to see this one thriving in Newlands Park. The park has become very familiar this week and is the half way point, when walking, between home and the gym. Yes, more glorious chlorine inhalation again today.
