Desperation

I was in Key West, FL with my dad this past week and we went out to Dry Tortugas National Park (approx. 70 miles west of Key West). The park was very cool. On display there was this boat. It was handmade by Cubans who were seeking asylum and sailed 95 miles until they hit shore at Lagerhead Key (3 miles from Dry Tortugas National Park). As I learned we have a wet foot/dry foot policy here in the US. If the Cubans make it to land without being caught they are processed and allowed to stay here. If they are caught by the Coast Guard, they are shipped back to Cuba. These boats are often carrying 15-20 people.
